Tataridamashi-hen, Part 1 (祟騙し編其ノ壱, Curse-Deceiving Chapter, Part 1) is the ninth episode of Higurashi no Naku Koro ni Gou.

Summary

Satoko's violent uncle, Teppei Houjou, returns to Hinamizawa, much to the dismay of the villagers. On June 9, 1983, Keiichi Maebara mocks Satoko Houjou for her lack of cooking skill during school. Mion Sonozaki challenges him to cook for tomorrow, which Keiichi is forced to accept after his parents are suddenly called away to take care of business in Tokyo. Keiichi attempts a stir fry that night but nearly burns down his house. He is saved by the intervention of Rika Furude and Satoko. While Satoko cooks food, Rika tells Keiichi about Satoko's missing brother, Satoshi Houjou. Satoko cooks for Keiichi the following night and the two bond. Keiichi's parents suddenly return the following morning.

Rena Ryuuguu calls Keiichi to help the club with a baseball game, though Satoko wins the game as soon as he shows up. The next day, Kyousuke Irie hosts a barbecue as punishment for his baseball team losing. Irie reveals to Keiichi that Satoshi was once a part of his baseball team and explains that, three years prior, Satoko's parents fell to their deaths. Irie attributes this to the curse of Oyashiro. After the barbecue, Keiichi attempts to ask Mion and Rena about Satoshi's disappearance, though Rena is quick to leave the conversation. Mion explains that Satoko's parents were supporters of the dam project and that she is attempting to keep the connection to the curse of Oyashiro a secret from Satoko.
