Batsukoishi-hen (罰恋し編, Penalty Loving Chapter) is an extra story originally intended as an epilogue to Meakashi-hen. It was scrapped due to its silly and irrelevant content but was eventually released as part of Higurashi no Naku Koro ni Rei. In 2011, it was adapted as the first episode of Higurashi no Naku Koro ni Kira.
Plot
Keiichi Maebara laments his continued losses during the club's activities. He is suddenly joined by Ooishi Kuraudo, Jirou Tomitake, and Kyousuke Irie. The four fantasize about different punishments they could enact upon Rena Ryuuguu, Rika Furude, Mion Sonozaki, Shion Sonozaki, Satoko Houjou, Hanyuu Furude, Miyo Takano, and Rumiko Chie.
Keiichi suddenly awakens in class, surrounded by the other members of the club. He is then subjected to visions of embarrassing situations as described by the other club members and later has nightmares about becoming patient zero to New Hinamizawa Syndrome.
