ABOUT THE "EYE OPENING ARC"
WHEN IT WAS IN PRODUCTION Hello, this is Ryukishi07. Thanks to all of you, Higurashi no Naku Koro ni has been made into a manga and has gained immense popularity, but for the first two years or so after the original series began, it was completely unknown. It was right around the time between the "Curse Killing Arc" and the "Time Killing Arc", that it gradually started making a name for itself over the Internet, and from there, it was catching everyone's attention before I knew what was happening. And so, while I was able to take it easy writing it up through the "Time Killing Arc", I remember feeling more than a little pressure writing the "Eye Opening Arc" and on, wanting to live up to everyone's expectations. It's only natural that when people have high expectations for you, you want to write something that meets those expectations...but does that mean that if no one has any expectations for you, you end up saying "that's good enough"? That's not what i means at all, is it? It has absolutely nothing to do with expectations or pressure. When it comes to putting everything I have into the work that I"m currently making, it has nothing to do with whether or not anybody knows about the series. Feeling that way, I meant to write the story without losing to the pressure...but every time I read it again, I remember the pressure from back then, and even now I feel like it could crush me. I suppose I'm not very brave (wry smile). |
