Higurashi no Naku Koro ni Oni (ひぐらしのなく頃に鬼) is a manga serving as a prequel to the Higurashi no Naku Koro ni series.

Premise

A tragedy occurring in Hinamizawa changes the fate of a lone girl and her friends. The turbulent early life of Oryou, head of the Sonozaki family, one of the Three Great Families, who would later be feared and known as Empress Sonozaki. A missing link connected to the original Higurashi story revealed now.

Release

Higurashi Oni was first announced on December 24, 2021 by the Gekkan Action Twitter account. More details were revealed in the March 2022 Gekkan Action issue released on January 25, 2022.[1]

On Janaury 24, 2022, Asahi tweeted that the story would focus on Oryou Sonozaki and the grandparents of the Higurashi characters, set in the past in the Taisho Era.[2]
