Sayo Yasuda (安田紗代) is the true form of Beatrice and the writer of the message bottles. Sayo's true name is Lion Ushiromiya, and was given the fake name "Sayo Yasuda" after the cliff incident. After Kinzo's death, Sayo succeeded the headship and became the true head of the Ushiromiya family.
Umineko no Naku Koro ni hinges on the mysteries surrounding Sayo. Despite playing such a large role in the story, Sayo never makes a direct appearance in Umineko no Naku Koro ni.
Profile
Background
Sayo is the incestuous child of Kinzo and his daughter Beatrice Ushiromiya. In an attempt to keep Kinzo's deed a secret, Sayo was offered to Natsuhi for adoption as Natsuhi was having trouble conceiving children of her own. Unfortunately, Natsuhi reacted violently to the offer and pushed the servant carrying the infant Sayo off of a nearby cliff, resulting in the servant's death and the mutilation of Sayo's abdominals and genitals. Following this, Sayo was taken into the Fukuin House and was given the "blessed name" Shannon. At the family meeting of 1980, Sayo met Battler and fell in love with him. However, Battler left the Ushiromiya family shortly after the meeting and did not return to Rokkenjima until 1986. The loss of her first love caused Sayo a great deal of strife and plays a part in Sayo's creation of the character Beatrice.
Personality
Sayo appears as somewhat vindictive throughout Umineko no Naku Koro ni, particularly towards Natsuhi.
