Alliance of the Golden Witch/Tea Party

Summary

Battler Ushiromiya spends October 5th hiding from Beatrice. He ventures into the Ushiromiya Main Building and finds the bodies of Natsuhi, Rudolf, Hideyoshi, Genji, Eva, Rosa, and Maria. Battler questions why Maria's body was among the other six when she had been called to the chapel for her test. Battler finds Jessica's body and later Kyrie's, both of whom died while on the phone with him. He then finds the bodies of Krauss, Nanjo, and Shannon. He tries to enter the nearby well that leads to the Kuwadorian but finds himself unable to open the grate covering it. Battler goes to the gardening storehouse to retrieve a tool to open the grate but remembers he can't get into the storehouse as the only key is with Gohda, inside the storehouse. He then goes to the boiler room and finds a hatchet along with Kinzo's burnt body. He returns to the storehouse and breaks down the shutter with the hatchet. He finds the bodies of Gohda and Kumasawa and determines that they had been killed before being hanged. Battler searches for the last body, Kanon's, and remembers that Kyrie said he had fallen down the well during their escape. However, even with the hatchet, Battler is unable to break the grate over the well. Battler ponders why everyone he spoke to had consistently bizarre testimonies and how Jessica knew of George's death. Despairing at the mysteries before him, Battler gets drunk on the remaining wine and yells at the portrait of Beatrice.

In the Meta-World, Beatrice and Battler resume their game. Battler posits that Kinzo is dead before the beginning of all games, allowing for there to be an unknown 18th person on the island who is the culprit. Beatrice counters, using the Red Truth to proclaim that there are no more than 17 people on the island. Battler and Beatrice continue to argue about the truth of Legend of the Golden Witch, Turn of the Golden Witch, Banquet of the Golden Witch, and Alliance of the Golden Witch. Battler gains an upper hand and Beatrice decides that, for her final mystery, she'll kill the Battler on the Game Board, the only living human on the island.
