The core element of each "game" is that the Human Side must posit that it is possible for a human to commit the crimes on [[Rokkenjima]]. The Witch Side must posit that it is impossible for a human and the crimes could only have been capable for a witch. To aid in this, the Witch Side is allowed to call testimony from "pieces" on the game board.

Umineko no Naku Koro ni has a number of rules that govern any given game. Players of both the Witch Side and the Human Side must abide by these rules. If the rules are not followed, a Logic Error is created.
