Summary
On October 4, 1998, 12 years after the events of Banquet of the Golden Witch, a sickly Eva Ushiromiya lays in a university hospital. She calls for Ange Ushiromiya, the only other living member of the Ushiromiya family. Eva expresses her desire to destroy Ange's future by giving her the wealth that she had inherited and forcing her to be a hated member of the upper class. She passes on ownership of Kinzo's gold, the title of Ushiromiya head, and the name of the Golden Witch Beatrice to Ange. Furthermore, she refuses to tell Ange the truth of what happened during the Rokkenjima massacre.
Despairing at the loss of her family, Ange stands atop the roof a skyscraper. She is visited by Bernkastel who asks for her assistance. Bernkastel claims that the only one capable of defeating the Golden Witch Beatrice of 1986 is Ange, the final Beatrice of 1998. Ange's bodyguards find her on the roof and demand that she return. Bernkastel beckons Ange to come with her.
