Terumasa Nanjo
Terumasa Nanjo (南條輝正, Nanjō Terumasa) is Kinzo Ushiromiya's attending physician and long time friend. He was previously a medical practitioner on Niijima, however he has since mostly retired and left his hospital in the hands of his son, Masayuki Nanjo.

Background
During World War II , Kinzo Ushiromiya brought Beatrice Castiglioni to Nanjo's hospital. After this meeting, Kinzo and Nanjo became close friends. Due to his knowledge of the West and a common appreciation towards chess, Nanjo is one of the very few people Kinzo has ever opened his heart to.
