The Ushiromiya family prepare for their flight to Rokkenjima. Ange Ushiromiya and Bernkastel look on as they leave. Meanwhile, in the meta-world, Battler Ushiromiya and Beatrice prepare for the next game. Beatrice invites Ange as a guest to their game. In order to hide her true identity from Battler, Ange introduces herself as Gretel.

During an unspecified time after 1986, at St. Lucia Academy, Ange endures bullying from her classmates. After finding a place to seclude herself, Ange opens a diary written by Maria Ushiromiya that she retrieved after Maria's death. She reads an entry about Maria's birthday wherein she received a stuffed animal named "Sakutarou" from her mother.
Line 83 ⟶ 38:
Maria's diary recounts another story of her being left home alone. Maria visits the convenience store with Sakutarou and four small ceramic rabbits that Rosa had bought her before. On her way home, Maria realizes that she lost her house key and spends the night searching for it. She is intercepted by a policeman who calls Rosa's work and learns that she has gone on vacation. When Rosa returns home, a social worker is present and asks her about Maria. Rosa becomes enraged when she learns that Maria had become famous around the town due to her frequently going out to buy food with Sakutarou and the rabbits. This culminates in Rosa smashing one of the rabbits and ripping apart Sakutarou.

In 1998, Ange and Amakusa are on their way to Niijima. Ange apologizes to Mammon for her actions at St. Lucia Academy and manages to summon Sakutarou and all seven sisters at once. She apologizes to them as a means of making up for her past behavior towards Maria. Meanwhile, Kasumi Sumadera and her bodyguards slowly make their way to Rokkenjima.

Back in October 4, 1986, the typhoon has enveloped Rokkenjima. Kinzo Ushiromiya exiles the cousins from the Ushiromiya Main Building so that he can make an announcement to the others. Shannon guides them to the guest house before joining the other servants in the parlor. Once all except the cousins have gathered, Kinzo enters the parlor. He declares that he plans on ending the Ushiromiya family and will not pass on the headship to anyone. He summons the Pendragon Memorial Troops and has them choose any six people in the room and use them as sacrifices for his ritual. This results in the deaths of Natsuhi, Rudolf, Hideyoshi, Genji, Eva, and Rosa. Kinzo then summons Ronove, Virgilia, and Gaap. Krauss, Kyrie, Kanon, Shannon, and Doctor Nanjo are swallowed into a void by Gaap. Gohda and Kumasawa manage to escape.
Line 95 ⟶ 50:
Back in 1986, Krauss calls the cousins again, this time under Kinzo's direction. He informs them of the test meant to determine the next family head and instructs them to lock Gohda and Kumasawa in the gardening storehouse so that they cannot interfere. The cousins are given the test in the order respective of their place in the family; Jessica is tested first, then George, then Battler, then Maria. For Jessica's test, she is made to return to her room in the mansion and is greeted by Ronove. Her test is a decision to sacrifice one of three things: her own life, Kanon's life, or the lives of everyone else on the island. Jessica chooses her own life. For George's test, he goes to the gazebo where he would propose to Shannon and is greeted by Gaap. Gaap says that George's test is a decision to sacrifice one of three things: his own life, Shannon's life, or the lives of everyone else on the island. He chooses the lives of everyone else on the island. Gaap tells him that he would have to kill all of them by his own hand and George declares that he will start with Gaap, leading the two into a fight. Meanwhile, Jessica begins to fight Ronove when he approaches her to kill her. George and Jessica gain the upper hand in their respective fights. However, just as each are about to strike a killing blow, Gaap uses her magic to teleport their attacks into each other, killing each other. Ronove briefly brings Jessica back to life and gives her two minutes to sort out her lingering regrets before returning to death. She calls Battler and warns him about the demonic nature of their enemies before she dies.

Shannon and Kanon, who had been using magic to watch the tests of George and Jessica, use their magic to lead an escape out of the underground prison. The group is intercepted by Virgilia and a small army of Goats, who are swiftly defeated by Krauss and Kyrie. Just as the group manages to reach the top of a ladder leading back to the island's mainland, the Chiester Sisters fire an arrow that kills Kanon, Shannon, Nanjo, and Krauss. Kyrie manages to escape to a phone inside the mansion and calls Battler. She warns him against disbelieving the supernatural nature of their killers before the Chiester Sisters manage to kill her as well. Maria tells Battler to take Kyrie's advice to heart and the phone rings again. Battler takes the phone from Maria, believing that Kinzo is the only living person who could be calling them at this point. However, he hears the voice of Beatrice onthanking Kinzo for for successfully reviving her. Beatrice invites Battler to the othermain hall of the Ushiromiya Main Building for his test. Battler accepts and goes to retrieve Gohda from the gardening storehouse so that he can help. When he arrives, Battler finds that both Gohda and Kumasawa have been hanged despite the only key to the storehouse being in Gohda's possession. Battler arrives at the entrance to the Main Building and Beatrice confronts him. She gives him his test: to remember and repent for his sin from six years ago. Battler comes to the conclusion that Beatrice is referring to his departure from the Ushiromiya family register six years prior and refuses to repent for his actions. Beatrice retorts that Battler hasn't remembered the right thing and leaves. Kinzo tries to cheer her up; Beatrice then burns him to linedeath.

Concurrently, in the Meta-World, Beatrice decides to leave her game with Battler but clarifies that she is not resigning, simply refusing to move so that the game never advances and Battler is stuck in the Meta World forever. Bernkastel, Lambdadelta, and Gretel express their dissatisfaction to this. Beatrice says she'll remain if Battler can prove he is qualified to be her opponent. She tests this by having him repeat several phrases using the Red Truth. He succeeds until she asks him to repeat that he is Asumu Ushiromiya's son, something Battler is surprised to find he is unable to do. Beatrice determines that he must not be the real Battler Ushiromiya and retreats to the Golden Land.

In 1998, Captain Kawabata tells Ange that Kinzo often had him bring food and supplies to the Beatrice who lived in the Kuwadorian until Beatrice died in an accident. Ange arrives on Rokkenjima and ventures into the forest in search of the Kuwadorian. She is found by Kasumi Sumadera, who is under the influence of EVA. Kasumi assaults Ange and destroys Maria's diary. Using the Seven Stakes of Purgatory, Ange kills all of Kasumi's bodyguards, Kasumi herself, and finally EVA.

Ange/Gretel arrives in the Golden Land and finds Beatrice and Maria. Ange declares that the Golden Land they are in is a falsehood; she evidences this by bringing up the absence of Sakutarou. Beatrice screams at Ange when she mentions Sakutarou's name. Ange claims that Beatrice is not a real witch as she is unable to revive Sakutarou and convinces Maria to leave the Golden Land by summoning Sakutarou herself. Ange and Beatrice then return to the paused game against Battler. Lambdadelta cuffs Beatrice's leg to her chair so that Beatrice is unable to leave again. However, Battler has lost the will to continue the game due to the reveal that Asumu is not his mother. Ange determines that he is still the real Battler Ushiromiya; just because he is not Asumu's son doesn't mean he isn't Rudolf's. Ange reveals her true identity to Battler, resulting in her death. Battler returns to the game and agrees to a restart with Beatrice.
