During World War II, Miguel was captured as a prisoner of war after a failed attack on an American camp. Miguel was tortured and mutilated by the Americans until he was eventually saved by [[Caleb Keireiji]]. Miguel previouslybegan workedworking underfor [[Caleb Keireiji]] during the war; their partnership then extended into their business dealings in District 23.
