Miyao Mitake (御岳都雄, Mitake Miyao) is a young Gauntlet Knight from AOU Japan and the protagonist of Ciconia no Naku Koro ni. He is the Second Lieutenant of the 0017th Aerial Augmented Infantry Squad "Warcat".

Profile

Background

When he was very young, Miyao's father put him through Parallel Processor training. He quickly demonstrated a natural talent for Parallel Processing, however he also developed a split personality. Miyao has especially high compatibility with the Gauntlet and holds the current world record for highest P3 level measurements. His overwhelming score far surpassed second place. Current Gauntlet engineering is unable to make use of most of his P3 potential, so he's currently in a state where his talent has outstripped technology.

Because of his unique level of ability, the AOU Next Generation Genetic Research Center and the AOU Joint Parliament have budgeted $100,000,000 towards his genetic analysis.

Appearance

Miyao appears as a young boy with cropped auburn hair. He wears a long white and purple jacket with brown suspenders and a red cravat.

Personality

Miyao is very prideful, especially in his incredible abilities as a Gauntlet Knight. When he was younger, Miyao had a fear of heights. Due to his position as a Congenital Parallel Processor, Miyao has a split personality named Meow. Meow identifies as a girl and refers to herself as Miyao's little sister. The two have a contentious relationship which is further strained by Meow's romantic interest in Miyao's squadmate Jayden.

Plot

Phase 1: For You, the Replaceable Ones

Following an impressive display at the International Battle Standard Festival, Miyao is inspired to create the virtual room "It's a Wrap Public Bath", which later evolved into the chivalric order known as the Order of the Public Bath. The ethos of both entities is to foster peace between Gauntlet Knights around the world. Throughout much of the story, Miyao is plagued by visions of a blue version of himself that predicts various worldwide disasters. The vision repeatedly tells Miyao that his own existence is what prevents the world from achieving peace. Meanwhile, Miyao's squadmate Jayden learns of Miyao's second personality and forms a romantic relationship with her.

Gauntlet Knights who are a part of the Order of the Public Bath begin intentionally sabotaging their own missions in order to avoid violence. This leads to the establishment of oversight committees that ensure the reliability of the Gauntlet Knights. The Order of the Public Bath is soon overwhelmed by mysterious organizations responsible for controlling governments and orchestrating worldwide events. International tensions begin to rise, leading to many of the Gauntlet Knights being forced to fight each other on the eve of a Christmas truce. Miyao is made to fight Lingji Liu, during which Toujirou commandeers Miyao's Gauntlet and punches Lingji to death.

Trivia

  • Miyao's name is meant to mean "best hero" 「雄」 in the "city" 「都」.
