Eva is bothoften portrayed greedy and intensely spiteful. While initially unconcerned with the family headship, she later became obsessed with gaining power within the family as a means of getting back at her brother [[Krauss Ushiromiya|Krauss]] for his self-importance regarding his status as next in line for the headship. As a result, Eva attempted to conceive a child before Krauss's wife [[Natsuhi Ushiromiya|Natsuhi]]. Natsuhi's status as "first wife" of the Ushiromiya family causes great resentment within Eva, who frequently attacks and demeans Natsuhi in an effort to appear better than her. After George's birth, Eva sought to make him admirable and ideal in every way so that he may one day ascend to the headship as well.
 
However, Eva's mothering nature leads her to be very protective of children; she adopts Ange after the [[Rokkenjima massacre]] and attempts to bond with her, though the then-adolescent Ange rebuked these attempts. Eva carries the truth of the massacre to her grave in order to protect Ange from learning the painful truth.
 
After discovering [[Kinzo's gold]] in {{banquet}}, Eva states that she wishes to use the money to bail out [[Hideyoshi Ushiromiya|her husband's]] company and leave the rest to her son [[George Ushiromiya|George]]. She later states that she wants this because she believes George, instead of her older brother [[Krauss Ushiromiya|Krauss]], is the true successor to the Ushiromiya family.
